FAQ
What are focus mitts for?
Focus mitts are pads designed specifically for punches. They can be used in boxing sessions, or you can pair them with a thigh pads to drill punch & leg kick combinations. They’re much smaller than thai kick pads which makes them faster for boxing combinations, and being a smaller target allows you to improve your punching accuracy.
How do I choose a focus mitt?
If you want to really focus on accuracy and speed, then speed mitts are a good choice. They’re smaller which means that you have a smaller surface area to aim for. Regular focus mitts are larger but still a great choice for boxing. Coach sparring gloves are another choice, where the focus mitt is built into a boxing glove, and these are great for drilling combinations with a partner or for a coach to drill with students.
Can you use focus mitts for kicking?
You can buy hybrid focus mitts which are larger than regular focus mitts but smaller than thai kick pads. These can be used for kicks, but if you are planning to throw full power kicks to the pads we recommend muay thai kick pads. Regular focus mitts aren’t suitable for kicking as they don’t provide the same level of protection that kick pads offer.
Can I use focus mitts in muay thai training
Absolutely. You can pair your focus mitts with a belly pad or more boxing-focused sessions, or pair them with a thigh pad to drill muay thai leg kick combinations.
Can I use focus mitts in MMA training?
Yes, you can use focus mitts in your MMA training. While we recommend using kick pads for absorbing kicks, focus mitts are a great choice for boxing-focused sessions or for drilling boxing combinations.
