FAQ
Can you use thai pads for boxing?
Yes, muay thai training pads can be used for boxing. Often during muay thai training you will also focus on boxing combinations, and thai pads can withstand punches as well as boxing pads. Thai Kick pads, belly pads and focus mitts can all be used in your boxing training.
How should muay thai pads fit?
Muay thai kick pads should fit snug on your arms without being too tight and uncomfortable. You want to make sure that you’re able to grip the handle of the pad properly as this will prevent any accidents from happening. Belly pads should also fit snug without causing any issues with breathing, and if belly pads are too loose they may slip down and you risk taking the body shot without the pad! Thigh pads should also fit comfortably but tight enough as to prevent the pad from sliding around your leg or moving out of place.
What are the benefits of using thai pads?
Using thai pads allows your and your partner to practice perfect kicking technique without hurting each others legs, body or arms! Muay thai kick pads are very padded which means that they can withstand the power of a hard kick. This also means that you can practice your favourite combinations at speed and power without hurting yourself or your partner.
Why are thai pads curved?
Thai pads are slightly curved as it helps the pad absorb the power of your kicks. When you hold thai kick pads you will hold them at an angle which allows the kick to be placed as it would if it were landing directly on the body. Having a slight curve allows the pad to bend slightly on impact and gives you a better placement for your shin.
How do you hit thai pads?
You should kick a kick pad by imagining you are hitting the body. Your partner should be holding the kick pad at the same height that your leg would naturally reach as this is the safest way to train kicking. When hitting belly pads and thigh pads you should also imagine that there isn’t a pad in place when aiming your punches and kicks. This will help you drill good placement of your shots which will help in sparring or muay thai fights.
